Aerial yoga, also known as fly yoga or hammock yoga, is a unique type of yoga performed using silk hammocks suspended from the ceiling. It allows you to experience traditional yoga poses in a gravity-free environment.
How Did Aerial Yoga Originate?
Aerial yoga was developed in New York in the early 2000s. Born from a combination of circus arts, pilates, dance and traditional yoga, this discipline quickly gained popularity worldwide.
Benefits of Aerial Yoga
Spine Health
One of the biggest advantages of aerial yoga is spinal decompression. When you hang in the air, gravity naturally elongates your spine and reduces pressure between vertebrae. This is especially beneficial for those suffering from lower back and back pain.
Flexibility and Strength

Aerial yoga allows you to safely experience inverted poses. With hammock support, you can easily perform poses that are difficult to do on the ground.

Aerial yoga is suitable for people of all fitness levels. You can practice safely even at a beginner level. However, caution should be taken in some situations:
Warning: Consult your doctor before doing aerial yoga in the following cases: Pregnancy, high/low blood pressure, eye problems (glaucoma), heart conditions, recent surgeries, serious joint problems.Basic Poses in Aerial Yoga
1. Hammock Seat
The most basic position. You start by sitting inside the hammock. This position is ideal for getting acquainted with the hammock and gaining confidence.
2. Inversion
The most iconic pose of aerial yoga. By hanging upside down, you benefit from all the advantages of spinal decompression. It increases blood circulation and clears the mind.
3. Aerial Warrior
The hammock version of the traditional warrior pose. While one foot is supported in the hammock, it strengthens your leg muscles and improves your balance.
4. Cocoon
The resting pose done at the end of the class. By wrapping yourself completely inside the hammock, you feel like a cocoon. Perfect for deep relaxation and meditation.
